Hierarchy vs peers

Despite the outward differences between people, the world doesn’t need to be hierarchical.

The best executives that I’ve seen don’t want to be worshipped, they want to be able to talk with their employees and customers on a level ground so they can figure out how things actually are.

Just like the best interns don’t want to be looked down on as inferior. They want to contribute and be respected.

Obviously there are situational circumstances that need to be accounted for (it’s probably worth more vetting of an idea before approaching an executive than you’d need before talking with an intern) but in general it seems like the most effective relationships are built at a peer-to-peer level based on mutual trust and respect rather than simply following a hierarchy and all of the baggage that comes with that.
