We used to do everything without a cell phone. Now it feels scary to do anything.
Even something as simple as taking my dog for a walk is uncomfortable.
I feel disconnected. Exposed.
But as I’ve made a conscious decision over the past few weeks to do more and more without my phone, I’ve started to see what seems to be missing. When we’re disconnected, we’re forced to participate in the physical world. We pay more attention to our surroundings, and to ourselves.
We have space to subconsciously process the complex world we’re living in. And we have space live outside of a screen.
I’m not sure what the optimal split is, but it seems like there’s benefit to spending less time near our phones than most of us currently do.
