A common theme lies at the heart of nearly all frustration and anguish derived from the current situation.
It isn’t the fact that we’re quarantined.
It isn’t the fact that we might get sick.
It isn’t the fact that life is different than it was a few months ago.
It’s that we’re longing for reality to be different than it is.
Staying home isn’t inherently bad. Our desire to go out causes our frustration.
The prospect of illness isn’t inherently bad. Our fear of getting sick is what troubles us.
It isn’t bad that things are different than they were before. We suffer when we long for everything to return to “normal.”
It’s a strange time. There are hardships all around us, and for most of us, these hardships are striking close to home.
Unfortunately, we don’t control these external events. We might prefer that things weren’t as they are now, but all we can do right now is accept it and make the most of the situation we’ve been dealt.
