When I’m working around the house, I tend to try to “make do.” Rather than always running to the hardware store to buy the perfect tool for every task, I like to try to expand the capabilities of my existing tools.
Sometimes this works well and I’m able to save significant time and money.
Other times, it turns into a nightmare.
Just a few weeks ago, I thought I’d save time by using an existing spade bit to drill through studs. It took 15 minutes of hard work just to drill one hole, and I think I damaged the drill bit in the process.
The next day I bought the proper drill bit for the job, and I drilled a similar hole in less than 5 seconds.
I still like the idea of looking for creative solutions and making things work with what you have, but sometimes you just need the right tool for the job.
