A bottle of wine disappears with every sip. No matter how much you enjoy the wine or how much you wish you had more, the bottle won’t refill.
Unlike most situations in which the abstract concept of time is the only thing slipping with every moment, the experience of watching the line on the side of the bottle drop with every pour is obviously tangible. We can’t trick ourselves into thinking that the bottle of wine, or the shared experience alongside family and friends, will last forever.
That’s part of the power of enjoying experiences rather than hoarding things. Although they’re fleeting, there’s something grounding about savoring something that clearly won’t last.
