A diverse company shouldn’t only have one version of their overview, just like a person shouldn’t have one version of their resume.
I don’t want my plumber doing my taxes, and I don’t necessarily look for the same qualities in my coworkers as I do with my friends. And I’m far from the only person who thinks like this.
When we present ourselves, or our product/service, we never have enough time to tell the whole story. We get a limited snippet before the person on the other side of the table makes a judgement.
So although we might have a wealth of interesting to information to share, we have to prioritize. Often this means thinking about what matters to the other party, and emphasizing the points that align with their interests.
