The halls of the Vatican are stunning.
But if you look closely enough, none of them are “perfect.”
The paint lines aren’t entirely straight.
The maps aren’t 100% accurate.
Even with the huge maintenance efforts, sometimes time wears on the art.
But that’s part of what makes it so special.
Any computer can draw a straight line.
Walmart can produce countless pieces of furniture the same way.
Cheap, soulless building materials almost always come with less flaws than what we see on aged marble or stone.
Yet there’s no question about what’s more beautiful in my mind.
The “flaws” are what make the art.
They’re what make it special, and almost human.
Sure it’s probably best to keep sloppiness and pure craftsmanship out of the equation, but minor flaws? – when showcased properly they actually add more than they take away.
