Into a headwind

Running into the wind is tough. It feels like you’re almost standing still, scraping for every inch.

It’s a different story when we’re flying.

A pilot will intentionally head directly into the wind for takeoff. It’s actually a tailwind that provides the more dangerous situation, since it makes it more difficult for the plane to get proper lift.

There’s a parallel to life here.

The marginally difficult things we do in life are made more challenging by resistance. It can feel like we have to fight just to keep from moving backwards.

But the truly great things? Those actually are often made possible only after we face a little headwind.

It’s tough to leave a comfortable situation to try something new. It’s a lot easier after losing your job or having some other event shake up your life. Sometimes a loss or a roadblock is exactly what we need to give us the courage to pursue something extraordinary.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a tailwind. But we should be ready to seize the opportunity that can come from resistance.
