Blame and credit

How much of the credit do we deserve when something goes right, and how much of the blame do we deserve when it goes wrong?

If we assume that luck over our lifetime equals out (which is a reasonable assumption) then we deserve no more credit than we are willing to accept blame. If we claim things are all on us when they go well, then it’s also on us when it doesn’t go well. Similarly, if we’re willing to attribute every loss to luck, then every win should be treated the same.

If anything, great leaders actually even take it a step further. They tend to take more of the blame than they’re willing to accept of the credit.

That’s a long way from the egomaniac who claims every win for himself but has an excuse for every loss.
