What are the odds that you read a book that a random stranger gives you on the street?
What are the odds that you read a book that’s given to you for free?
What if you select and pay for the book yourself?
Free isn’t always good. In a lot of ways, we’re less likely to utilize free resources because we didn’t make the same investment to get started.
I’m much more likely to finish a movie if I take the time to drive to a movie theater and pay to get in than I am if I happen to come across a movie while I’m on my couch.
If I’m going to dinner for a special event, I don’t want to spend $3 on a glass of wine.
It doesn’t match the occasion.
Even if someone could make a decent pair of dress shoes for $10, I wouldn’t wear them with my nicest suit when I go to an important meeting.
It doesn’t match the story I tell myself.
We’re lying to ourselves when we say that we want everything free or cheap.
