Mark Wahlburg made headlines by providing food for nurses in a Detroit-area hospital over the weekend.
It’s a generous action meant to help some of the brave people who we’re all relying on to help us make it through these challenging times.
You could, however, argue that there’s some self-interest involved. The simple fact that Wahlburg’s name is being spread throughout the media shows that this could be viewed as a successful marketing stunt for both him personally, and his burger chain, Wahlburgers, that happens to have a location right outside of the hospital he’s helping.
My response…
Who cares?
It’s fantastic if this is truly a selfless act meant to help those who are helping others. But it doesn’t do anything to diminish the act even if Wahlburg gets some benefit out of it.
That’s the beauty of people doing the right thing. It’s most sustainable, and sometimes actually most effective, when it’s a win-win situation.
It’s great when the “good actor” is truly acting out of the good of their heart, but the good act isn’t diminished even if some self-interest is involved. I’d much rather have Mark Wahlburg spend his marketing budget helping the cause than shooting a funny commercial.
