Simple thought experiment – do you feel the wind moving around your hands as you walk?
The answer is very clearly yes. Swinging our hand through air creates a sensation that is obviously perceptible. Pay attention next time you go for a walk and you’ll certainly notice it.
Yet it’s likely that you’ve never consciously felt this sensation. It’s there, but we pass over it as we’re so tuned into whatever else is on our minds.
It’s just one example of the many different ways in which our bodies perceive the world around us without us noticing. And most of these perceptions are much more meaningful than air simply flowing by a hand.
