Useful discomfort

You need to be willing to be hungry to lose weight.

That’s not to say that a temporary bout of hungry is by itself enough for weight lose. A few minutes of hunger is more than offset by a food binge or a sedentary lifestyle.

But the discomfort is a prerequisite.

It’s a seemingly laughably obvious statement, but we forget it all the time.

The cognitive load of breaking down a complex subject is required if we want to understand it.

Physical discomfort is necessary if we want our muscles to grow and become more efficient.

We have to experience anxiety before we can get over the fear of speaking up.

When things get tough, we forget that this is actually a good thing. It’s a sign that we’re moving in the right direction.
