For an audience

Playing piano for an audience is nothing like playing in isolation – even if that audience is only a few people.

Not only does the crowd increase the level of pressure, but it also adds a slew of new variables and distractions.

Simply changing from one piano to another drastically changing the playing experience due to the varying feel and sound from the keys.

Then add in someone humming or singing along to the music, and it’s like playing in a whole different world. The singing is rarely on time, or in tune, and every little mistake is amplified.

Playing for a crowd can be much more fun that playing alone, but it’s only possible if you practice accordingly.

Simply playing by yourself, on the same piano, and in complete isolation every time won’t cut it.
