Back to the grind

After time away from our typical routine, eventually we return to the norm.

And once that realization hits us, we feel something.

Maybe it’s fear for the mountain of work that we’re returning too.

Maybe it’s sorrow for the vacation or celebration that is behind us.

Or maybe it’s disappointment that we no longer have something to “look forward to.”

This all seems natural, particularly when we’re leaving an experience that we enjoyed.

But no matter how much fun we had, or how great our time away was, I’d argue that there should be another element as we prepare to get back to the daily grind: excitement.

It doesn’t need to be the same as a kid going to bed the day before Christmas, but there should be a spark there.

If not, maybe it’s time for some deeper reflection.

Our lives aren’t just vacations. Those times are the exceptions.

Most of our time (likely >90%) is spent in normal everyday life. If we can’t enjoy that, then what are we doing?
