If a stranger hands you a free book with no explanation, do you read it?
Of course not.
Maybe you flip through the pages, look it up online, and try to make a decision about whether it’s worth your time. But anyone without massive amounts of time to spare wouldn’t blindly commit hours of their life to a random book just because it was free.
The true price of a book is rarely monetary. It’s the time it takes to read it.
The same can be said for an app.
We regularly tend to devote dozens and hundreds of hours of our life on phone apps without a second thought. We think there’s no cost because they were “free.”
But obviously that isn’t true. We might not see the impact in our wallet, but that certainly does mean they’re free.
