Sometimes I find myself “wishing” that things were easier. That there was less ambiguity and a clear path forward.
Often that means that I just need to go find the path. That someone before me has already made the effort to determine what needs to be done next. That the information is just waiting for me to find it.
Other times, there is no easy path.
Ironically, those times are the most exciting.
Anyone can do a Google search. Anyone can figure out how to solve a problem that countless others have solved before them.
The more interesting opportunities are when we face a unique problem.
I sometimes get frustrated by the abstract problems that I face at work. Complex technical situations combine with political and economic climates, egos, self interest, and competition lead to a world of seemingly vast uncertainty.
But then I remember that this uncertainty is the very reason that I get to do what I do.
I wouldn’t have a role if computers (and ultimately AI) could be programmed to solve the problems I face. There would be someone, or something, out there that could replace me at any time.
But the simple fact that there is no easy solution to the important problems I face?
That’s the whole point.
It might be frustrating, but it isn’t something to wish away. It’s something to be grateful for.
