There’s a famous phrase that has been repeated by leaders through the years.
Essentially, each individual has three options: lead, follow, or get of the way.
Each team needs at least one, and often several, people who are willing and able to take the lead.
These leaders then need followers – the people who provide the leverage and force behind an objective to reach a given outcome.
Finally, if you don’t want to lead or get behind a cause, that’s fine. Go stand on the sideline and get out of the way so others can be successful.
Notice which options aren’t listed. You don’t get to complain or point out flaws in the plan without providing solutions.
You take an active role in moving the objective forward or you leave a clear path for your teammates.
