Watch enough sporting events, and you’ll understand that you can’t judge a game until the end of the fourth quarter (or second half, third period, etc.). The list of “unbelievable” comebacks and collapses is staggering.

But we tend to forget this outside of sports.

There are countless stories of people who became wildly successful after struggling for much of their early life, just like there are many people who had early success and then lost it.

When we look at our own lives, or those of people around us, we’re quick to assume that the present moment is all that matters. We react to failure like it’s the end of the world and we celebrate success as if we’ll never make another mistake.

Sometimes it’s useful to take a step back and realize that there’s still time on the clock.
